Super Cool Mom

You would never believe this gorgeous mama is on her 4th baby...and that she has a daughter who is in college! Her beautiful daughter came with her to the studio and the two of them could pass for sisters...I swear! "M" was so fun and easygoing. It was a joy to get to know both of these ladies and I can't wait to photograph the new little princess. "M" and her hubby have some very cool tattoos...and I'm thinking tattoos+newborn cutie=super cool baby photos! Yeah I'm so lucky, I have the best clients! Sweetly Sleeping

Is there anything sweeter than a sleeping baby? Or even a sleeping toddler, or teenager? I think we all do it...stare at our sweet children as they sleep, it's as if all is calm and at peace in our world.
Sweet baby girl "P" slept so peacefully for us during much of our time together and I love it! (there will be plenty more photographs to come of her turning into a busy baby and toddler). I had a great time again with the "H" family...they were some of the calmest new parents I've been around...(I think dad may have even snoozed on the couch for a little while :) ) Thanks "H" family, hope you enjoy. ~Cory

This is the first time I've been tagged...new to me! So anyway, photographers tag other photographers to answer questions on their blog (I guess). This tag comes from my dear friend Whitney that I met while at our awesome workshop last fall. She was my "green group" buddy and I feel like we've truly become good friends...so this is for you Whitney!

4 Things I did Today

1. Finished editing a session...and started work on another...whew!

2. Met with my new office assistant for the first time! Love you Erin!

3. Prayed for Cory's Dad and his surgery (her and her family too).

4. Started packing for our trip to my sister-in-laws in Florida.

4 Things on My To Do List

1. Ummmm....4 things? I have about 10 lists on various pieces of paper with at least 20 things on each list...oh well...#1 Edit my own children's photos and get them in the blank photo frames hanging on the walls

2. Edit my Australia photos, post them and send them to hubby's family.

3. Get some family photos taken before hubby deploys again this summer.

4. Finish at least one project completely...Ava's room, the studio, taking items to Goodwill (I boxed them)...etc...etc...etc.

4 of my guiltiest Pleasures

1. Shopping...it's a new thing, but I love it...house stuff, clothes, shoes, camera equipment, etc

2. Sweets...ice cream, chocolate, cake

3. Antiquing...I need to go with Whitney! I'm coming to California Whitney, lets hit some antique shops...there's not a lot here!

4. People magazine...I get it only when hubby is deployed with extra money we make.

4 Random Facts About Me

1. I only saw my husband in person about 9 times before we were married.

2. I come from a small town...graduating class of 60.

3. I feel at home near the water...I'm sure it's because I grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan.

4. I'm not photographing weddings much anymore...too much time away from the fam...but I miss the result of capturing one of the most beautiful days of life.

Twins

I spent part of my Mother's Day photographing these adorable twins and their gorgeous mom. Unfortunately, it took them a while to find the golf course, but when they got there we had a blast. What a fun, energetic family. The little guys were so funny and their mom "T," you could see clearly, was so in love with her boys. We got to run and play on the golf course at Legacy Links in Aberdeen...a picture perfect setting. The course is open to the public if you want to try it out, and we know the head guy there...he's pretty great (Cory's husband). "T" I hope these photos are worth spending your Mother's Day driving around for a bit...it was a joy for me. ~Kristin

A Mother's Morning Out

If you are looking for an AMAZING childcare program for your littles ones, we have one for you! A Mother's Morning Out located off of Ramsey Street in Fayetteville is the best around. I can say this because I send my 4 and 2 year old there and have been for the past couple of years (Cory does too). We drive all the way from Raeford because we believe this program has the most loving, attentive teachers. Emily and Kristy teach the children, they don't babysit. They love the children, they don't just tolerate them. If you are a mom and need just a few hours of free time a couple mornings a week, this is the place! We promise you won't be disappointed. Fun "Y" Family

I adore this family and the friendship we've had for the last few years. My friend "K" was pregnant with this little guy here when I was pregnant with my son. Our husbands traveled home from deployment together, early, to be there for our sons births. We have a beautiful bond and I am so honored to be able to photograph their family as they grow and change. I hope they enjoy the preview (all the proofs are almost done). Isn't little lady "B" just a doll? I love the photos best with her huge smile and laugh. Ahhh...what an amazing job I have!

New Favorite Spot

I have a new spot that I love to photograph. It is an old abandoned barn and field area that I see when I drive to my cousin's house. I love to look for new, interesting places to photograph as I drive in the car...it also helps me to see the beauty around me that God has created. Anyway, my first attempt photographing here was the lovely "P" family. Three great, fun, animated kids and a beautiful mom dear to my heart. I usually photograph them right before Christmas, but it was so much fun to do them in the spring this year and to do something a little different. I always love to be around newborns...the little noises, the floppiness, the sweet smell and on and on. I miss all of those things as my little ones are growing up so quickly! I love, love these! I had the best time with some of my great friends "J" and "L". I love sunset and the amazing colors the light can create. The "B" family let me make some crazy suggestions for time, locations and things to bring, but you can see it turned out amazing...thanks guys for following along with my crazy ideas. This couple is so musically talented and are integral part of our church worship team, both have been taking guitar lessons and are using the musical gift they were given, so we incorporated their love of music in these photographs...I'm sure baby "B" will be serenaded often! 100 DAYS old

Okui-hajime is an important Japanese tradition for the celebration of babies.
When a baby is 100 days or 120 days old, its parents have the ceremony, inviting their relatives and friends. They serve a wonderful dish to their baby.
`Okui` means 'to eat' and 'hajime' is a Japanese word meaning 'to begin'. The "Z" family celebrated this special occasion as family came to visit all the way from Japan. It was a great experience to photograph a significant event for the "Z" family; who also have a Japanese inspired nursery that was so beautifully decorated as you can see below. Here's one little glimpse of Australia...which is probably what you think of when you think of Australia...kangaroos! This cutie is from the Australia Zoo (zoo of the late Steve Irwin the Crocodile Hunter). I know it's not scenery, but it's a start and we just loved the kangaroos. At the zoo you can pet and feed them...which I think I loved as much as the kids! We also had the joy of seeing one out of the window of our house one day...God is amazing in his creation! Springtime! New Birth

Springtime blossoms are here! I have to say spring is my favorite season. The blue skies, the flowers, the trees sprouting new leaves...it makes me in awe of God's creation. Another amazing part of creation is the miracle of a new life...a new baby will soon be born to the "H" family.

It was great to be outside at the gardens on a beautiful spring day with "L" and "P". They were a very fun couple expecting their first baby. There are some funny shots of Dad that I may just have to post later, this little girl will sure have fun and be so loved. ~Cory

Giving to those in need

Michelle and I are friends from church and she is so talented and very generous! Our church (The Fayetteville Church) collects a missions contribution every year and the money goes to support churches in our fellowship in other countries. Currently our church helps support churches in South Africa. The Durban, South Africa Church supports a local orphanage that has become special to our congregation.

Michelle is creating a website for people to purchase her hand made items (vintage and modern pillowcase dresses, hats, bibs, and more); there will also be other talented women contributing items. I had the opportunity to play at the park with the "K" family before they move. It was so much fun to see little "L" enjoy riding his trike outside for the first time! I had the pleasure of photographing the tiny, sweet baby "A" this week. Her parents are so in love with her and grateful to have her home! I love going to people's homes to see them in their environment; I especially love photographs of the newest babies in mom & dad's arms, because in the years to come you cherish these precious memories of them so tiny in your arms! Time goes so fast and if your like me in only a few years time you will forget that your little baby could have ever been so small...so content in your arms. I so cherish the photographs I have with my own, especially now that my little girl is about to turn 3! Headed Down Under

Hi everyone! Just wanted to let you know that my family and I will be heading to the other side of the world this week! How exciting is that? I have not traveled much and am SO looking forward to going to Australia with my hubby and kiddos to visit my in-laws. The hubby was born an Aussie and we are finally getting the chance to go visit! Little "G"

I had been waiting for the birth of Little "G" for weeks hoping that he would come before our vacation. I was so happy when I got to photograph him this week. He was so good and alert! Mommy and Daddy are so smitten with him, and who wouldn't be with that face and handsome tuft of hair? It was a joy to be there and to see this family grow from a loving couple to a complete family. Maternity Shoot Adventure

So my recent maternity shoot was so much fun! My friend "R" and her sweet hubby "I" were game for anything when it came to their session! When I mentioned that I had had my eye on a burned down building with only it's chimney standing, they said "Sounds great!" I love clients who are willing to trust my vision and are game for anything. In this shot, they were standing on the porch, on top of some charred remains of a building and a little glass...but how cool is this! I love being an artist and "R" is an artist herself, so she truly appreciates my crazy visions. Remember...YOU ARE YOUR ART! More to come from this session. ~Kristin

All boys!

I actually got to these fast...it's so fun to get home, load the photos and see what I captured...so I worked on a few here of the "L" boys. You've heard Kristin and I say it before...the great part of our profession is the people we meet & the lasting relationship that we form. I've known both of these little guys since they were only days old, and now they are 2 years old and 6 months old. I've gotten to know the "L" family well & I often feel more like I'm hanging out with friends than with "clients". Big Brother "G" has always done so well for me, but today he had me running, on the ground, following him as he was on the go. He loves his little brother, but was too busy to sit for long with him...he had balls to throw, trains to see, and bubbles to catch. Little "F" as you can see was most happy with Mom...she didn't plan to be in any photographs, but it was so natural to capture her in a few...and they are some of my favorites...she is such a great mom and so beautiful too!

Little Miss "M"

I love Little Miss "M." Not only is her family dear to my heart, but I have been photographing her since she was a baby and look at her now! She is just gorgeous and full of life. She usually gives me a couple of minutes and then our shoot is done, but this time she obliged me by playing with me in her pretty new room. She even got to jump on the bed (as you can see) and dress up like Tinkerbell towards the end. Just a quick note...the amazing beds were antiques made more lovely by the talented painting skills of Mrs. Carolyn Derusseau...a local artist. The two lovely little girls you see here came all dolled up in the cutest dresses. I had so much fun playing with little Miss "D" as we were having our session. We took the photos inside in our church lobby! It was such a yucky day out, so couldn't venture outside, but God gave us His home to use! I Confess

I have to confess, I am a texture addict! I had to add this photo from my last session. If you've been following the blog, you know almost every post I do I have a photo with texture. I just love adding the textures to photos! I think I am in love with this technique because I am an artist at heart. I grew up drawing with pastels and charcoal pencil. When I drew, the more texture and roughness the better. This way, I am adding a little more of myself to my photos, and in my opinion, making them a little more like a work of art. Hope you like the new style that we've been adding! We love doing what we do! ~Kristin

My Little Buddy

I was fortunate enough to photograph the lovely "W" family. They were so happy to see me, even the little guy who became my buddy. He wanted to play with me and show me everything, which was so much fun. I did have a hard time keeping up with him though. He is full of life and energy and kept me up and down and on my toes. I'm so grateful to have had the chance to photograph this mom and her son. She was one of the people nominated by her best friend for the Christmas Giveaway. Although she did not win the large package, I wanted to give each nominee a small package and sitting. She is truly inspiring. I'm sure you can see the connection between her and her son and the love that is there. It takes someone special to go through what she has and still have the joy in her heart. One more for a Laugh

Ok, I was editing the photos I posted earlier and came across this one. I just laughed so hard. It portrays the story of our family and so many others... It says to me, here is the first baby (the dog) and then along comes another baby of the human kind. The poor doggies always seem to get less attention after the new baby comes along, just because of the sheer amount of energy needed to take care of a new little life. Anyway, the look in the dog's eyes is priceless to me as the baby is trying to grab the dog's toy. He's saying "This is mine...I am not giving this last ounce of happiness up!" Well, hope it puts a smile on your face as it did mine. And don't worry, this doggie gets lots of loving still and so do my sweet baby dogs. Until next time...Kristin

Ocean Eyes

This little guy has the most brilliant aquamarine colored eyes! They remind me of the ocean in Belize. Obviously his eyes aren't the only striking thing about him, he's super handsome all around. He's a busy little guy and I had a fun time playing at home with him and being able to capture him with his family. The beautiful great dane you see in the photos is such a sweet, BIG baby. It made me so glad to be able to have the big doggie in the photos, as he's getting older and is such an important part of their life. Tutu Princess

Little Miss "L" and I have been seeing each other every couple of months for some time now. Her mom is so great...she always has the best outfits and props for the little one's photos. This time, for her first birthday photos, I got to go to their home and it was like the rooms jumped off the pages of Pottery Barn magazine. I couldn't have had a better setting with the cutest tutu princess. Little "L" has the most adorable outfits and the sweetest pink and brown room (to die for)! She was the best little model too, because you can't even tell from the photos that her second tooth was coming in and she was in pain. Poor baby! Hope you're feeling better little one.

I got the amazing opportunity to photograph a beautiful mom-to-be and her sweet hubby. They were so cute and excited about the little boy who is going to be making his entrance into the world very soon! They had so many ideas and I barely had to do any coaching...this girl looked amazing in front of the camera. Her adoring husband had nothing but praise for her and as you can see from the photos, was in awe of his lovely wife. I can't wait to meet the little guy! Oh and crazy enough...if they were going to have a girl, they were going to name her my daughter's name...first and middle! I love this family! Can't wait to see you in the next few weeks!

Amazing Help, Adorable Family!

When the sweet Momma of this family called for a session, I didn't realize how much help and fun I would have! Grandma and Auntie were in from Chicago (close to my neck of the woods) and they were the best helpers I could ask for! Everyone pitched in to hold the reflector, move the furniture and calm the little one. The only one who managed to escape without a photo was Auntie...now how did that happen? Oh and did I mention they had the cutest, most well behaved dog! He even looked at the baby when asked...now that's a dog that should be in show business. Anyway, the love that surrounded this little guy was so special and I felt right at home. Thanks so much for inviting me into your lives. Sweet Interactions

I was so excited to photograph the "M" family at their home. Mom was so high energy, full of ideas and excited! I LOVE EXCITED CLIENTS! Dad was such a sport, playing along with all of our many ideas. He was so helpful with the little one and very quiet about the fact he was not fond of photographs...I hope he loves the result of his hard work. Good job dad! I have to say, my favorites from this session were of loving mom and dad interacting with the little guy. Their adoration for him and each other is evident...and I fell in love with their expressions together as a family. I hope I get the chance to see them again before their PCS out of country!

Fun in the Michigan Snow!

I can't tell you how excited I was when my childhood friend "L" asked to photograph her children on my visit home for Christmas! My idea all along had been a session out in the snow and we had the perfect day! Beautiful, airy, lake-effect snow was softly falling and made this I think my most fun shoot ever. It was freezing, but the kids were having a blast and so was I. There were so many photos to pick from that it was so hard to narrow them down for the blog. I have the kids laughing, knocking each other over, playing in the snow and being fantastic models of course. I am going to do something fabulous with these for the studio for sure!

The Gift of Friendship

I recently was in Michigan to spend the holidays with my family. It was an amazing time to see the people I love. One of those people who has been a special part of my life for many years is my loving friend "N." We've been through so much together...she was by my side when I was married, we've shared the ups and downs of life...and most recently the birth of her second, precious baby girl "Sweet Little A." I was almost afraid that "Little Miss A" and I were not going to have our newborn session date because this little angel has had some health issues and then I came down with bronchitis! But, after it all, God gave me the desire of my heart, to photograph this lovely baby. Thank you "N" for your eternal friendship and for sharing the lives of your beautiful children with me. I'm a Little Behind

This holiday season has been busy and rough on us. It's been wonderful, but with a number of sicknesses and traveling I've barely had time to do much of anything. I've been sick myself for the past week. Anyway, I want to post a few photos of my clients the "L" Family. I photographed them before Xmas and they were wonderful. I don't want you to feel left out! You guys are so great! I love to photograph them cause "Mr L" loves to give me a hard time, but he's the best. He tried to convince me that their family photos needed to be taken with the football goal post in the background! I almost believed him! He can be pretty convincing really! Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you to them for being caring clients and more than that...for offering any help I needed during our rough time. That is what I love about the people I have met here...they are genuine and love with their whole hearts. I appreciate your kindness. And I will be posting more from new shoots soon...I'm so excited about a one I did of my dear friend's family in the Michigan snow!

I'm so very grateful to be a part of giving back in such a beautiful way this year. As our photography business begins to grow, I have been looking for ways to make a difference in our community and the lives of others. Again, I want to thank my friend Kristen Kalp for the chance to be involved in something so amazing and to give back to others in this time of joy. Christmas has always been one of my favorite times of the year, family, friends, love and peace. I have such wonderful memories and have been fortunate enough to have been taken care of by the grace of God every year. I know that there are so many people who are struggling, just trying to survive this year especially with the failing economy. Knowing that there are so many people who are not doing well makes it a difficult thing to decide, to choose only one family who will receive this gift. Although I cannot choose each one of the nominations for the "grand prize," I would like to help out each of the families who's stories were shared with me. For each family that was not chosen, I still want to photograph you and give you a small package (sorry nominators, the gift will be for the families you nominated only). I will contact each one of you with details. Afterall, I have been given so much, how can I say that every person does not deserve a beautiful memory to cherish and pass on for a lifetime? I truly believe that photography is one of the best gifts that can be given. We hold on to our photos for years. We look at photographs to try to get a better understanding of our ancestors and reminisce over special moments or that vision of a loved one lost. I can't say enough about how much it means to me to be able to give this gift to these very deserving people.

Unfortunately, we've had some crazy experiences in the Railton household...children so sick they were admitted to the hospital, family visiting, and the list goes on. Finally

I finally got to photograph this gorgeous family this week. Mom and I have been trying to set something up for a while now, but it just never happened. So, I was so excited to be able to get chance to photograph them for the holidays. It was great to tromp around their backyard in the swamp area to get the shot by the water. It was squishy and a little questionable at the time, but I think the shot was well worth it! Then I got to play with "Little Miss H" in the leaves and she even asked me if I could stay...my heart melted! Handsome older brother was great, he was the one holding a perfect smile for every shot! What a guy! I am so lucky...I must have the most beautiful clients ever...just look at this family! They were so kind and sweet too! I feel so grateful to have clients like these! O Christmas Tree Farm...Fun Family Shoot!

Last week I was able to photograph my wonderful "B" Family. We headed out to a local Christmas tree farm and were welcomed with open arms to use the beautiful grounds for holiday family photos. "Little Miss C" was running all around the trees, playing with me and never slowing down! This girl is full of wonderful energy! It was so lovely to see such natural interactions between them and capture the love that is there! Here are some sneek peeks for them while I finish up the rest. Also, if you are in the market for a real Christmas tree this year, please consider the Smokey Mountain Farm. It is located off of 401/Raeford Road and Scull Road heading towards Raeford. With the state of the economy, it is always a joy to give back to the people of our own community. It is well worth the trip.

Isn't this little man so cute...there are so many great shots it's hard to pick my favorites. I had the privilege of photographing little "c-man" when he was a newborn and how time flies...he just turned 1! He made me earn my keep as he crawled everywhere super fast...he was so cute and I loved how he snuggled his little lamb...memories mom & dad will cherish forever...the cammo is for grandpa...soon 4-wheelers and hunting...a few more years to go, though. Happy 1st Birthday "c-man", look forward to watching you grow!

I was so happy to get a call recently from this little guy's mom to say she wanted 6 month photos. It's amazing how much "Little Mr. J" has changed since our last appointment. He was so happy and cuddly and cute! I just loved seeing him smile behind those beautiful blue eyes. I can't wait to have him back again.

Hard to Say Goodbye

Being a photographer is the greatest job I could ever ask for. I get to meet the best people and watch their families change and grow. It is beautiful to witness a couple bring their first baby into the world and see the pure love between them. It moves my heart to see a child grow from a newborn to a toddler who runs and plays. I truly feel I become friends with my clients and they make me feel like family. Being so close is amazing, you can capture the sweetest moments, but it can also be heartbreaking. It is heartbreaking like with the lovely family you see here...the "LS" Family. I have been photographing them from maternity, every 3 months. I've watched "Little Miss M" change and grow. She is such a little doll! You might recognize her from numerous appearances on our website. Anyway, this 1 year shoot was our last. My dear "LS" Family is moving and taking a part of my heart with them. I left their home with a hug from mom and tears in the car as I drove away. Thanks for the support and love "LS" family. My Wonderful Assistant!

I am so truly humbled to be mentoring an amazing senior girl this year on her senior project. "Miss A" is an extremely talented photographer already and is off to photography school next year to become a photographer everyone will know by name in a few years! I love her so much and hope that I was able to teach her a little bit about this beautiful job that God has given me. It has been my pleasure to have her company and her help on my recent shoots. I hope that she enjoys her senior photos! Someday she will be taking them herself and I'm sure they will blow this photographer right out of the water. Not only is she talented, but gorgeous too...look at those baby blues!

Thank you to our wonderful customers for a truly amazing year and holiday season! It has been our joy to celebrate with you the special moments of your life this year. Fun Together

A couple of weeks ago, Cory and I had the chance to photograph together downtown. I LOVE photographing with her and then comparing our different shots. We had so much fun with our friends the "H Family." They have three lovely girls which are all so different. As you can see, "Miss L" is the oldest, sweet and serious. I think she looks so stunning...and she was nervous about having her photo taken! Then "Little Miss C" was our supermodel of the day. She could strike a pose any which way! I love the turquoise door behind her...doesn't it make her pop out of the photo? Last, but not least, energetic "Little E." I think I got a few cute ones of Cory playing with her...but I'm sure Cory has a load of cute ones too! She followed her around and captured the amazing little light that she is! Love Them!!

It's that time of year again when I get to photograph my dear friends the "T Family." I always look forward to the time I spend with them. I have watched the kids grow since little "G Man" was a baby. He used to give me one shot and then he would tell me he was done...my how times have changed! As you can see we have a little model on our hands. He has perfected the deep, mysterious look already! Then there is beautiful "Miss P" who I adore. You would never guess her age in a million years! She is so beautiful and grown up looking. By the way, her dad is going to get me for saying that! Sorry, but you know I love you all! "C" Family and Friends

A couple of weeks ago I got the priviledge to photograph one of Cory's dear clients. "Mrs C" was in town and called us up for a photo shoot (we are so honored). I am so blessed to photograph the "C" Family every fall right before Christmas. They are such fun, encouraging people and always a joy to hang out with. As you can see from the photos, "Little Miss M" has always given me a run for my money since she was a baby! She has a mind of her own and is OH SO FUNNY! I had to include the silly family photo of everyone else doing the Brady Bunch (Dad's idea) while she spits at me...hee hee. I love her to death! What fun! Amazing Senior "Miss J"

This is our first official blog post and I am so excited that it gets to be an amazing senior that I photographed last weekend. "Miss J" was a perfect model. She was beautiful, sweet and willing to do anything this crazy photographer wanted her to do. I have SO MANY photos, so narrowing it down to a few was super hard. I hope that she loves her sneak peek and that her sister "Little Miss J" is pleased to see herself too! She toughed it out through massive hunger to support her sister and this photographer who could always find another shot.
